Lifestyle

You can improve control of your diabetes, and therefore your overall health, by making changes to your lifestyle.

Setting goals

Effective goal setting is important for helping you achieve your treatment and lifestyle goals. You can improve your chances of success with these tips.

Setting Goals

1

Stop smoking

Smoking tobacco increases the chances of you developing high blood pressure, damaged blood vessels and heart disease. It also increases the chances of you developing diabetic retinopathy (DR), which can lead to DMO, as well as a number of additional complications of diabetes, such as kidney disease.

Stopping smoking can have a positive impact on your diabetes and your DMO treatment.

We offer goal setting and tracking in the Vision Coach app. Here’s an example:

When I take a break from work, then I'll ask a friend to come for a brisk walk and not go to the smoking area.

Follow a healthy diet

Diabetes is all about how your body responds to blood sugar. So what you eat has a big impact on your condition.

Sugar is one of the most obvious parts of your diet to think about, but there are many other things you can change that will help you follow a healthier diet.
