Smoking tobacco increases the chances of you developing high blood pressure, damaged blood vessels and heart disease. It also increases the chances of you developing diabetic retinopathy (DR), which can lead to DMO, as well as other complications of diabetes, such as kidney disease.
Make sure you plan the day you quit. Try to ensure it won't be a stressful day, and that you won't be tempted by any of the typical triggers.

Reminding yourself of all the reasons you want to quit can be a powerful way of strengthening your resolve. Improving your fitness, feeling better about yourself and having more money in your pocket can all be powerful incentives to stay on track.
Everyone has different ways of dealing with cravings, for example avoiding people who smoke, finding healthy substitutes or going for a walk. Spend time working out which ways are effective for you!
